Howie Mandel won’t be the only familiar face on daytime “Deal or No Deal” today.
Jennica Corry, a 23-year-old insurance auditor in Irvine, Calif., grew up in Yakima and still has ties here. She will holding case No. 10 on the show, hoping for a chance to be a contestant.
The 2003 Eisenhower High School graduate will be on the new daytime version of the show, which like the prime-time version is hosted by Mandel. It airs at noon on KNDO, channel 23 locally.
The daytime version has a slightly different format that includes regular folks rather than models holding the secret possibly fortune-laden briefcases. Corry will start out holding case No. 10, but if a contestant picks her case, she’ll get her chance.
She’ll be on today, Thursday and Friday, according to her mother, Mary Gefre of Yakima. And no, even though the programs were taped in June, Gefre does not know whether her daughter won anything.
“She had to sign a lot of legal papers,” Gefre said. “She’s not supposed to tell anybody, even her husband.”
Gefre and her husband, Corry’s father Gary Gefre, plan to watch the shows as they air. But seeing her daughter on television isn’t enough for Gefre, who is flying to California this weekend to see her in person.
“I can’t wait,” she said.
