YAKIMA -- The annual walk to find a cure for asthma is Saturday at 9 a.m. at Sarg Hubbard Park.
“Asthma is becoming more common in the Yakima Valley, and it’s more vital than ever to find a cure,” said Tammy Lloyd, the family team chairwoman for the walk. Lloyd’s son, Jay Daniel, has suffered from asthma since he was six months old.
The walk is expected to raise $60,000 for asthma research and education programs, according to Kristin Matthews of the American Lung Association of the Northwest. “The funds will be used in the same way they have in the past,” she said.
The Northwest chapter has been embroiled in controversy with the American Lung Association. The parent organization obtained a restraining order last week from King County Superior Court prohibiting staff in the Northwest chapter from any unauthorized spending.
